ERIC BRENDO SIGNS WITH INDIE LABEL the council

posted: 6 July 2010

NEW EP, OVER THE DUNES AND INTO THE CAVE, COMING LATE SUMMER
2010

June 1, 2010: Eric Brendo has been an impressive force in the music world since his early days in his native Detroit.

A songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Brendo started his journey with veteran soul singer/bluesman/pianist Robert Bradley, whose close friendship with Kid Rock prompted collaborations between the two, yielding “I Got One For Ya” on Devil Without A Cause, among other things.

Brendo was assimilated into Bradley’s notable Blackwater Surprise along with brothers Michael and Andrew Nehra. Soon after, he began writing songs with the Nehras, resulting in sessions at Detroit’s world-famous White Room Studios, along with legendary Motown composer/arranger Paul Riser (Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers) and drummer Matt Chamberlain (David Bowie, Fiona Apple, Wallflowers, Tori Amos).

In 2004, Eric moved to NYC to spearhead Downtown with a writing partner, Bob Ebeling. The project was produced by Flood, Moulder and Toni Halliday (NIN, Depeche Mode, My Bloody Valentine, Curve). The duo’s uniquely crafted & sophisticated sound, recorded mainly in London, was released to rave reviews.

Brendo now steps out on his own with an EP release slated for late July on EMI-distributed label the council, entitled Over The Dunes And Into The Cave. Of the signing, Brendo enthuses, “I’m psyched to be part of the council because of the fearless, creative energy and respect shared amongst Howard Wulkan and myself in the studio while recording the EP. the council has an intelligent approach to the marketing and development of its artists in the current world of musical nonsense and a positively wonderful outlook on the future of the industry…”

On the debut EP, Brendo traverses a handful of styles with elegance, ease and heartfelt commitment, evident on spotlight tracks like “Ashes” and “Destroyer,” skimming through the same vast sea as contemporaries Richard Hawley,Spiritualized and Richard Ashcroft and channeling, at once, the likes of Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, Scott Walker and Ian McCulloch.

Over The Dunes And Into The Cave is a rare treat for folks who still look for craft in their songs.

Eric Brendo is currently on tour and will remain on the road for the rest of 2010. Current dates include the following:

July 6 – Carousel Lounge – Austin, TX
